No visit to Coimbra is complete without a stroll at Portugal dos Pequenitos. This theme park is entirely dedicated to children and it was built in 1940 thanks to the keenness of Professor Bissaya Barreto, a doctor and teacher who was one of the greatest labourers of the social assistance works in the Coimbra area throughout many decades of the 20th century.
When it was created, the goal of the park, designed by Cassiano Branco, was to become “a living portrait of what it is to be Portuguese and the Portuguese presence throughout the world”. Nowadays, it still maintains its playful spirit proving an entertainment, discovery and learning space where children can explore the typical houses of each area of Portugal and its islands, the most significant monuments in Portuguese heritage or the architecture of the Portuguese speaking countries… all of it in a miniature scale!
Don’t miss this chance of having fun, strolling like Gulliver among the houses, monuments and miniature squares and discover Portugal in this costume made corner for children.
