Royal Factories of Serra da Estrela
The royal factories have been replaced by the Wool Museum of the University of Beira Interior, a place where you can still discover the machines, techniques and living experiences which made Serra da Estrela wool one of the most interesting success stories in Portuguese industry.

The welcoming town of Covilhã at the foothill of Serra da Estrela is the epicentre of the street art scene in Center of Portugal. WOOL is also the name of the first festival for street art in Center of Portugal, which has been held annually since 2011 with the help of many local volunteers.

In 2024, Guide Michelin Portugal has announced 8 new Bib Gourmand restaurants in Portugal, adding to an already existing list of 32 restaurants all over this food-loving country! Center of Portugal has the only 1-star Michelin restaurant in the region, Mesa de Lemos, located in Viseu, scoring also 1 green star for sustainable cuisine. Flora and Olaias are the brand new Bib Gourmand restaurants in the region. Bon appétit !
