Que Jazz é este? 
From 8 to 19 July, the ‘Que Jazz É Este?’ jazz festival returns to Viseu for its 14th edition. With free admission to all events and a call for voluntary donations, the festival reaffirms its decentralised and community-based nature as a space for gathering, experimentation and participation, where jazz intersects with other artistic forms, takes up residence in unexpected places and brings together diverse audiences.

Cinema in the city
Various venues in Viseu are being transformed into open-air cinemas, with this year’s edition dedicated to exploring films from a range of countries – from Portugal to Hong Kong, via Spain and India – in a programme designed for audiences of all ages. This year, due to restoration work on Viseu Cathedral, some of the screenings have been moved to alternative venues – and three sessions will take place at the magnificent Solar do Vinho do Dão.

Magic Formula 
On 18 July, the Caramulo Museum will open the exhibition “Fórmula Mágica” (Magic Formula), the largest exhibition dedicated to Formula 1 ever held in Portugal.
Spread across two buildings, this immersive exhibition celebrates the legacy of the pinnacle of motor racing through a unique collection, including some of Formula 1’s most iconic cars, such as the Lotus 97T, in which Ayrton Senna won his first Grand Prix, at Estoril in 1985, Nigel Mansell’s Williams FW14, Nelson Piquet’s Lotus 100T, Emerson Fittipaldi’s Copersucar FD04 and Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari F2005, amongst others.

Feira de São Mateus
The biggest ever edition of the São Mateus Fair returns in 2026, more fun, creative and sustainable than ever.
It’s 31 days packed with concerts and entertainment, fun and sport, food and culture.
From 6 August to 6 September, the 634th edition of the ‘Guardian of the People’s Fairs’ will be reborn, more dynamic and surprising than ever!

Rock & Dão
On 18 and 19 September 2026, Santiago Park in Viseu will host the inaugural edition of Rock & Dão, a new festival that brings together music, gastronomy, lifestyle and the excellence of Dão wines in a unique and sensory experience.
With the support of Viseu municipality, Rock & Dão has been launched with the aim of establishing Viseu as a leading destination for cultural events and premium experiences, combining the urban atmosphere with the region’s wine and culinary heritage.

Tradidanças
From 29 July to 2 August 2026, Tradidanças — Festival of Traditions, Dance, Music and Nature returns to Carvalhais (30 km away from Viseu), in São Pedro do Sul, for several days celebrating music, dance, community and the local area.
Set in a beautiful woodland setting, the festival brings together participants of all ages to enjoy folk music from Portugal and around the world, with a programme combining concerts, dances, workshops, body and movement practices, nature, tradition and contemporary creativity.

Caramulo Motorfestival
Portugal’s biggest motoring festival is back in the Serra do Caramulo for its 21st edition, from 4 to 6 September.
With free entry, the Caramulo Motorfestival programme includes a range of events and activities such as the Caramulo Historic Hill Climb, the Automobilia Fair, the Air Show, a Gaming Centre, the Off-Road Track, Bikersville, Motorlândia and Retro Park, as well as parades, themed exhibitions and product launches, and numerous guest drivers.

FLIV - Viseu Literary Festival
“Before it’s too late” is the theme of the first edition of FLIV, which takes place from 7 to 11 October in Viseu. The event aims to revive the Book Fair, showcase authors “made in” Viseu, and bring other figures from Portuguese-speaking, Italian and Spanish literature to the forefront of discussion and dialogue.
The programme will be announced soon, but the participation of authors from Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, Italy and Spain has already been confirmed. Authors “made in” Viseu are also guaranteed a place at the Festival, with particular emphasis on promoting and showcasing their literary work. 
The historical centre of Viseu will be the focal point of this literary event. In total, more than 100 events are planned, including debates, book presentations and book launches, workshops, theatre, concerts, street performances, poetry readings and exhibitions.

Christmas in Viseu
Viseu enchanting Christmas market offers warm drinks, regional products, workshops, and festive activities for all ages in a magical atmosphere! Every year the beautiful historical city of Viseu is the stage of an enchanting Christmas market that fills the streets of the city with magic and light ! In the Christmas market, beautifully placed at the Republic Square, there are pleasant warm drinks, superb regional products for sale, local handicraft and delicious homemade chocolates!

Festival Internacional de Música da Primavera 
In April all the roads lead to Viseu. Viseu International Spring Music Festival is a leading event organised by the music school Conservatório de Música Dr. José de Azeredo Perdigão. Focusing on chamber music, both early and contemporary, the festival features dozens of concerts, masterclasses, educational concerts and international piano and guitar competitions. The International Spring Music Festival has become a tradition in the city. Classical music just around the corner.

JAL - Jardim das Artes e das Letras
The Garden of Arts and Letters - JAL is an immersive cultural project that transforms Viseu’s green spaces into community meeting places, offering numerous free activities, ranging from concerts and open-air cinema to poetry workshops and exhibitions designed for peaceful enjoyment.
This initiative takes place every year in green venues such as Aquilino Ribeiro Park. The project invites families, schools and the local community to make use of public spaces through interactive stations dedicated to figures from literature and the visual arts.

Goat community
In the heart of the Magic Mountains, in São Pedro do Sul (23 km away from Viseu), amongst ancient forests, crystal-clear rivers and hidden valleys, the GOAT Community returns for its most ambitious edition to date. Tom de Festa
Now in its 35th edition, Tom de Festa - Music Festival, organised by ACERT, in Tondela (40 km away from Viseu), remains true to the path it has been forging and, at the risk of becoming predictable, insists on what it never wants to cease being: a festival encompassing many musical traditions; a space for celebrating diversity in all its richness; and a space inhabited by its community.
