Castelo Branco Cheese

Castelo Branco Cheese

From pure sheep milk comes the most intense flavour in the region: the Castelo Branco cheese.

With a protected designation of origin, this is a ripened cheese with a slightly buttery, yellow and deformable texture which can also be rough and somewhat brittle when the process of ripening is longer. In the latter case, in which the product is called old Castelo Branco cheese, it has a strong and slightly spicy taste. You can find both types in the Castelo Branco, Fundão and Idanha-a-Nova municipalities.

And if you want to enhance your food route in the region, you should also taste the unique Matação soup, the tasty roasted kid, the strongly golden olive oil or the full-bodied wine with Beira Interior flavours.
