8000 Kicks is the name of a Portuguese brand that produces vegan unisex shoes made of cannabis. This amazing project is carried out by a 77 years-old grandma, Olívia, and her grandson, Bernardo. This start-up produces sport shoes made of hemp fibres. Vegan, sustainable and waterproof.
The grandson, Bernardo, graduated in Management and lived in other foreign countries, such as the United States, China, France and United Kingdom. He returned to the small village of Minde, at the heart of Serra de Aire e Candeeiros, to start a new challenge with his grandmother, Olívia. They launched their start-up 8000 Kicks through an American crowdfunding platform and they managed to raise 200 thousand Euros to start the project. Grandma Olívia plays a major role in assuring that all sport shoes are carefully produced. Absolutely flawless.
The shoes are made in hemp fibres that demand 5 times less water than cotton to grow. The shoe soles are made in algae, collected in lakes and oceans where their presence can destroy sea ecosystems. 8000 Kicks produces the first hemp insoles in the world, which are antimicrobial and antibacterial.
