Eneida Lombe Tavares is a young product designer, based in Caldas da Rainha, who fell in love with the intricate art of basketry. Her inspiring work that mixes ceramics and basketry is all about a deep connection to nature. And to her fascinating African heritage.
Her most famous work is Caruma, where pine tree needle basketry goes hand in hand with ceramics via a special weaving method. This work is available in yellow, blue and natural colour.
The work of talented Eneida Lombe Tavares can be seen until June 30th 2021 in São Bento Palace, the Prime-Minister's official residence. The exhibition "Design in São Bento - Traits of Portuguese Culture" is curated by MUDE - Design and Fashion Museum, showcasing the importance of Portuguese design throughout the centuries as a sign of innovation, development and sustainability.
Eneida Lombe Tavares works in the city of Caldas da Rainha, where she shares her art studio - Estúdio Mulato - with her boyfriend, Jorge Carreira. Through the community brand Vicara, Eneida is able to sell her creations in the foreign markets.
Weaving natural threads like beautiful hair braids. It's all about paying a tribute to cultural memories.
