Murtinheira panoramic road

Always take the scenic route! This panoramic road connects Buarcos beach in Cape Mondego area to Murtinheira Beach, in Figueira da Foz, offering a dazzling view over the endlessly blue Atlantic Ocean and Boa Viagem Mountain.
This wonderful scenic road is located near the Natural Monument of Cape Mondego and its Jurassic settlements: the only steep point on the central Portuguese coast and the best and only place on the planet where you can see rocks that are around 170 million years old!

Lighthouse of Cape Mondego

Discover the majestic lighthouse at Cape Mondego, where breathtaking views meet maritime history.

At the end of Boa Viagem Mountain, between the wild beach of Murtinheira and Figueira da Foz, Cape Mondego is the only cliff spot of the central Portuguese coast. An impressive set of wrinkled limestone rocks invading the sea. This is actually the place to understand the formation of the Atlantic Ocean.

Visits to the Lighthouse of Cape Mondego can be booked through the National Maritime Authority. Visits on Wednesdays are free of charge and no previous booking is required.

Dinos in Figueira da Foz

A fossil of a 154 million-year-old dinosaur footprint was discovered recently in Figueira da Foz, by mere chance, following earth-moving works on the southern slope of the Boa Viagem Mountain, in Figueira da Foz.

This amazing archaeological finding can be seen at the Municipal Museum of Figueira da Foz, founded by António dos Santos Rocha in 1894. He carried out a remarkable work by positioning the archaeological collection of this museum as among the best in the country.

Salt Museum

The Salt Museum was inaugurated in 2007 in Figueira da Foz. At the core of this museum is the interpretation, the valuing and the promotion of a century-old connection between local population and the salt ponds of Figueira da Foz.

The Salt Museum offers its visitors unique experiences, as well as detailed information on 5 major themes: definition of salt; salt in nature; the history of salt in Portugal; the salt technology in Figueira da Foz and the production cycle and the salt ponds and nature conservation.

Flamingos in Morraceira island

The island of Morraceira, located in Figueira da Foz, is a highly fascinating place in terms of bird-watching interest.

Flamingos can be found near the salt ponds of Figueira da Foz, the place where they find comforting shelter after very long trips. They migrate to Portugal mainly in Winter time. coming mostly from France and Spain.
