Spring brings along longer days, higher temperatures and the hope of blossoming new beginnings.
Spring equinox
Spring begins with the spring equinox that in the Northern Hemisphere happens in March, while in the Southern Hemisphere it occurs in September. Spring brings along longer days, higher temperatures and the hope of blossoming new beginnings.
Happy sheep
Shepherds and their sheep flocks are the key to understand the essence of Serra da Estrela. They are actually the soul of the place. When Spring comes, shepherds and their happy sheep go all the way up the Mountain, looking for fresh pastures, as the harsh Winter days have lingered away. Days are now longer and brighter.
Burel Architecture
Launched in February during the Surface Design Show 2022, Burel Architecture is a new brand developed by Burel Factory focused on interior architecture and design. The creative design has the signature of Portuguese designer Rui Tomás.

Burel Factory
Like all the good fairy tales, Burel Factory has a story that combines amazing landscapes, passionate characters and, of course, love.
Casa de São Lourenço
Casa de São Lourenço is the only five-star hotel in the Serra da Estrela region and the only one with a panoramic view over the Glacier Valley. Conceived in 1940 by the architect Rogério de Azevedo, reborn now with a new life turned into the beauty of the landscape.
Transhumance routes
Wool culture is inseparable from herding and the ancient knowledge of agro-pastoral societies. It is connected with the memory of great flocks crossing the mountains, guided by men who strolled through inhospitable territories and isolated mountain villages where people made a living out of ancient weaving traditions.
Blessed sheep flocks
The blessing of the sheep flocks is one of the most colourful traditions of the Mountain Villages, in Serra da Estrela. Men and their sheep flocks walk a long way to the Chapel of St. john the Baptist located in the welcoming village of Folgosa da Madalena, in order to bless the flocks. It's St. John's feast!
