Valmitão
Valmitão Beach has a very long stretch of sand, approximately 1.5 km long. The sea is rough, though.
On the southern side of the cliff, there are partial remains of an iron cremation necropolis, dating from the 6th century BC.
The beach is very popular among water sports enthusiasts and underwater fishermen. Access is made via the village of Ribamar, taking the Valmitão Road westwards, which ends at the car park in the central area.
Praia Azul
The extensive sandy beach and its dunes characterise this beach, which is ideal for surfing and body-boarding in winter, with calmer waters in summer. It is located between cliffs and the Sizandro River.
Porto Novo
At the northern end of the Torres Vedras coastline lies Porto Novo, a picturesque beach located at the mouth of the Alcabrichel River.
When you reach the square next to the bridge, you will be captivated by the landscape. On one side, the imposing blue sea. On the other side, the river breaks through the vegetation that covers the Escarpas da Maceira towards the blessed thermal waters.
Santa Rita
Santa Rita Beach is a peaceful haven with a small stretch of sand, approximately 300 metres long, very popular with surfers and body-boarders due to its challenging waves and with recreational fishermen due to the region's excellent conditions for this sport.
Its facilities include a restaurant and bar with a terrace, offering a relaxing seaside experience. The beach also has lifeguards, beach and bathing support, a first aid station, toilets, showers, beach cleaning, an information panel and parking for private vehicles.
Amoeiras
Tis dog-friendly beach has a cliff that surrounds its long stretch of sand, allowing visitors to observe the unique colour of its clear waters and the rocky areas that are also visible at low tide.
It is a pleasant beach, accessed via the rock itself, which allows us to observe the characteristic reddish colour of the cliff.
Praia da Foz do Sizandro
Foz Sizandro Beach, in Torres Vedras, combines the beauty of the ocean's crashing waves with the beauty of the natural landscape of the surrounding vegetation.
With its extensive sandy beach, it has the unique feature of becoming almost an island, due to the water that surrounds it.
Good access and some beach facilities invite us to take a swim.
Cambelas
Cambelas beach is flanked by high cliffs, where fossilised dinosaur bones, a crocodile nest and tropical sea corals have been found, proving that very special conditions existed here for these species.
Today, this is a very beautiful wild beach, integrated into walking trails in the west and frequented mainly by fishermen.
Curious fact: In 1978, the German cargo ship Alchimist Emden ran aground on Cambelas Beach due to bad weather. The ship had departed from northern Spain and was bound for the south of the country. On board were 1,600 tonnes of highly explosive chemicals, which had to be removed with the aid of tanker trucks after it ran aground. The ship was later dismantled. However, part of the ship's hull can still be seen today at low tide.
Assenta
Assenta Beach is a small beach with high cliffs, which has served as a sheltered harbour for traditional fishing boats for hundreds of years.
For centuries, fish was unloaded here to supply the neighbouring populations, reaching as far as the current city of Torres Vedras.
Its clear waters allow you to see the seabed and observe various species of fish and shellfish. Take the opportunity to admire these fishing boats, carefully restored and maintained by their owners.
Eat like a local
@ Clube Naval Praia da Assenta
The restaurant Clube Naval Praia da Assenta is located in the old fish market of this fishing port, right on the cliff.
Its large windows offer a spectacular view of the sea. However, the main attraction is the always fresh grilled fish. The décor is predominantly fishing-themed, bringing us closer to the local reality. Fish and seafood are sold by the kilo so that customers can decide how much they want to eat !
