Apart from many other highlights, the railway station of Aveiro is a true iconic place. Completely covered with blue and white tiles, depicting regional scenes, this amazing building stands out as the most significant collection of outdoor tiles in the city.

The iconic train station of Aveiro has now a shop, where visitors can buy the best regional products. João Mendes Ribeiro is the architect in charge of the fantastic renovation works that truly respect the originality and the richness of the tile panels. The building is open for visits from 10:00 to 18:00 everyday of the week.

Train station of Caldas da Rainha
The Oeste railway line was founded in the late 19th century, connecting Lisbon to the coastal city of Figueira da Foz. The train stations of Torres Vedras, Bombarral, Óbidos, Caldas da Rainha and Leiria have in common a rich tile legacy. The panels usually depict the scenes that define local identity, such as agricultural or wine-related themes.

Tipically Portuguese, the tiles of the train stations can only be found in Portugal. This is why the tile heritage is so deeply important and all renovation works carried out in the different Oeste train stations focus on preserving this unique legacy.

Opened in 1887, the railway station of Caldas da Rainha is one of the most fascinating train stations in Portugal. The outdoor walls are covered in magnificent tiles produced in the factory Fábrica Aleluia in Aveiro, in 1924. These impressive tile panels portray the outstanding ceramist Bordallo Pinheiro or Queen Leonor, as well as many attractions of this welcoming city.
