Its façade has high towers on both sides. In the inside it is a typically gold covered baroque church. Igreja do Carmo has a golden woodwork in joanino style (second Baroque phase) displaying a great decorative overload, which enables a luxurious image of the inside.
This exuberance is reinforced by the blue of 18th century azulejos, as well as by the colour provided by 17th century dome and archway paintings of Italian painter Pascoal José Parente.
