The city of Covilhã offers its visitors truly unique gastronomic delights, deeply rooted in the historical past of the once factory-city. A major example is the Covilhã pastry, a very popular speciality among the communities of wool factory workers. Covilhã is also known as the parsnip capital. Parsnip is a root vegetable that looks like a carrot, but has the colour of a turnip. Its unique flavour is actually of mix of them, yet sweeter. "Suspension" by Joana Vasconcelos
World-acclaimed Portuguese visual artist, Joana Vasconcelos, has conceived the stunning work "Suspension", a 28 meter-high rosary, inaugurated in 2017 during the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the Apparitions, placed vertically in the Church of the Most Holy Trinity. Today this work can be seen from an horizontal perspective upon a replica of Leonardo Da Vinci's Vetruvian Man.

Center of Portugal has the only 1-star Michelin restaurant in the region, Mesa de Lemos, located in Viseu, scoring also 1 green star for sustainable cuisine. Flora and Olaias are the brand new Bib Gourmand restaurants in the region. Bon appétit !
