A tributary of the right bank of the Tagus, Pônsul River rises in Ramiro Mountains, at an altitude of 650 metres, in the municipality of Idanha-a-Nova.
With a river basin covering 1,496 sq km, it is one of the main feeding grounds for the very elusive and rare black stork (Ciconia nigra).
The reservoirs of Penha Garcia, Marechal Carmona and Monte Fidalgo dams can be found on Ponsul river.
The Pônsul River meets the right bank of the Tagus River south of Lentiscais, where the Balcón del Tajo boat arrives from Cedillo, in Spain, to discover the unique natural grandeur and history of Castelo Branco.
