Praça 2 de Maio

Praça 2 de Maio is a pivotal spot of the inviting inland city Viseu that underwent many challenging changes throughout the decades.

This square is now fully covered in glass and this cover will work as a huge solar panel, generating energy for the whole square and surrounding buildings. Some love it, some don't, but it's definitely a must-see!

Located in one of the main streets of Viseu, Rua Formosa, Praça 2 de Maio used to be in the past the city's open-air market. Later in the 90's this space was renewed by Pritzker award-winning architect Siza Vieira. A deeply innovative project, contrasting with the initial character of the place.

Nowadays, this square stands out as a cultural venue, ideal for more intimate concerts, as well as a meeting place where locals and visitors can have a drink or a meal in the existing restaurants and cafés. The place to enjoy a soul-soothing break in Viseu!
