Founded by Miguel Pinto and Henrique Camilo, the Astronomy Observatory of Travancinha focuses on scientific research, astronomy education, and astrotourism, with support from the Travancinha Parish Council and the Municipality of Seia, in Serra da Estrela.
Originally from Argentina, Federico Neiman, director and coordinator of the Astronomy Observatory of Travancinha, is a university professor with a PhD in Astronomy.
Neiman aims to strengthen the observatory as a meeting point between science, nature, and imagination, offering educational activities, family experiences, and astronomical research. A second phase will include robotizing the dome to allow remote observation by researchers worldwide.
Upcoming events include public observation sessions and educational activities. As Neiman says, “With our hearts on Earth and our gaze on the Universe, we create experiences that make this mountain village a meeting point between science, nature, and the sky.”
Because the sky is no limit!
