In Center of Portugal, the prestigious Universities of Aveiro and University of Beira Interior, in Covilhã, are at the forefront of innovative water-based sustainable projects, developing smart nature-based solutions to reduce water consumption and to protect biodiversity and natural ecosystems, while raising public awareness on urgent sustainable practices. In Portugal there are 55 species of wild orchids. A great part of this species can be found in the Natural Park of Aire and Candeeiros Mountains, namely 27 species! The gorgeous bee orchids are the living proof of how impressively intelligent orchids can be. 

This is the smallest group of Schist Villages, as well as the most spread out. The proximity to the Alentejo plain can be utterly felt in the landscape.
